Rice University
Rice's superb academics on an attractive residential campus on the edge of sprawling Houston can make those who still put gasoline in cars feel better about oil company profits, as some of that cash is going into a large endowment. A residential college system like Yale's subdivides Rice's student body into manageable units for living and learning, a human touch leavening the intensity. The framed pictures of world leaders in the James Baker School may make Republicans feel more comfortable here than at other elite but more liberal institutions. Regardless of one's politics, the education available is first class.
